It was June of 2009

The economy needing stimulus

The flu was swine

We lost many great ones

Johnny’s sidekick, the King of Pop and Farrah

Cancer, heart attack, addiction to vicodin

15 for me, one for you

Didn’t MJ sing I’ll be there for you?

No more can we buy Chryslers new

Unemployment is everywhere, people waiting in line

Foreclosures , Divorce

Bankruptcy, corruption on an evil course.

It was June, the year 2009

You need a Nip and a tuck

Which would you prefer

Larger breasts would be nice

A nose like Leeanne Rymes?

Perhaps a rounder behind?

It was June of 2009

I’m no longer HIS

He’s no longer MINE

The dress that I’m wearing I got it online

Same with the boyfriend, I just double clicked

Wasn’t he a great find?

American Idol should have been Adam

Bright lights shone for Angelina, Rachel McAdams

Fergie ‘s so hot and Amy Winehouse is crazy for sure

PSA’s show child hunger, there’s so much cancer..no cure

Hollywood , Washington DC, how many more scandals can

These towns endure?

It was June of 2009

“How I Met Your Mother” huge on prime time

Everyone’s broke and no one’s keeping up with the Jones

But 10 year old kids checking our their I-phones

Sooner or later someone must explain to me

How Oprah sent her staff to Greece

But the average family can’t go to the movies , popcorn for three?

The house on the corner that we always loved

It just was bought at an auction for a song

The family that built it back in the boom

I heard they’re all scattered

Not in Greece, but their lives ..just in ruins

It was June the year 2009

Everyone feeling postal

Some judges facing time

Congressman commiting infidelities like

It’s nobody’s business

Didn’t we have mutual funds somewhere, honey?

But now there’s no interest

It was June the year of 2009

The music was techno, a little mellow, some rap

People working harder for less money

Falling into the same old trap

It was June the year of 2009

I thought that things would get better

Everyone’s ship coming in…still waiting for mine

There’s a new president, he made history

His skin, it is black

He promised a package

A way to bring it all back

So we are being patient

We’ll give him til July

Cause if things don’t pick up soon

We’ll blame Obama…and no one will care why.

It was june of the year 2009

I’m betting the farm

I’ve lost my life line

Nobody ‘s watching the news anymore

We just check our blackberry’s

And we’ll get the Yankee’s score

The weather, who cares

We’re not working anyway

We’re obsessed with John and Kate plus eight

Their marriage on the rocks

I don’t even know these people

Do they live around the block?

It was June, the year 2009

People designing their own babies

Your eyes or mine?

Tiger Woods neice making her golfing debut

Does that mean that she now is famous too?

Gay couples insisting their marriage is right

Sweat shops full of children who work through the night

It was June of the year 2009

Rock of Ages and Billy Elliot on broadway

Shiraz is the wine, sushi and veggies simply divine

Let’s get to know one another

Your sister’s my brother

What did one politician say to the other

Let’s get this deal done…Your cell or mine?

It was June, of the year 2009

Webkins they rule, Power is cool, hybrid cars everywhere

Mom meet my new girlfriend

“She’s got a ring in her WHERE?”

Healthcare expensive, and needed so much

Kids emotionally disturbed, they scream but don’t touch

Crime, addiction, poverty all over the place

Did Mom find time after Pilates to check the pic’s on Megan’s my space?

Obama is sending folks back to school

Dreams long forgotten now are back

Hope this dude gets us out of this mess

Oh yeah, by the way, is he black?

As long as this nation’s not under attack

Seems we’ve made history

And it’s a wonderful thing

We’ve got skype, and satellite radio

Kids graduating from high school who can’t read

Would you like fries with that

Will soon be their creed

Someone playing a song

Are you sure you can sing?

Don’t worry if you cant, just show lots of skin

Move your body to the rythym and lip sync

It was June of the year 2009

Kirstie Alley is pissed off

But Valerie is fine

We’ve got The Biggest Loser

Taped on our DVR

And all we can remember

Is don’t forget the ambien CR

Pick up the Viagra and Prozac okay?

commercials warning erections that

could last all day

Some four hours or more

Where did you get that guy and

Are there anymore?

It was June of the year 2009

Bills overdue, secretaries to screw

I’m hanging out at Borders

With my list of avoiding things to do

GPS, PMS, ADD, disorders galore

I tried jumping out the virtual window

But someone turned it into a door

Everyone at dinner was full

But they all wanted more

It was June of the year 2009

Nothing matters much to me,

My inner child is just fine

If anyone needs me

I’m taking the red eye to LA

Don’t call me I’ll call you

Seems there’s a reality show airing

And they’ve made me Queen For A Day.

Love, Love, Love It! Sad, so very sad, but so very, very TRUE!

Hey Erin. You summed it up quite well. Your views are that of many, but most don't know how to express them as accurate as you. You are certainly going places with your writing, so DON'T let ANYTHING get in the way of your sharing this talent with the world.

Been watching for a new Hub from you Erin, and I have to say you didn't disappoint me. As before, you're right on top of fact, not fiction. Reading your Hubs make my day, so "Thanks" for another great day.

It reminds me of Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire. You certainly created a full image of this time. You have it in you to create beautiful and disturbing images; that is called talent.

Hey Irish. I really like this one. It's sad, but we're all caught up in the fast lane today, and it's becoming a very cold world because the attitude of "Who cares" is taking over. You see it, and wrote it. Keep the Hubs coming.

Hey Erin, you didn't miss a thing...couple parts were sad, but it shows that 2009 is in a pretty sad state!...some made me smile...(she has a ring where? lol) I liked this one...keep on going...you can see you are really into it!! That is cool...I like the way you put it all together...

Hey Erin, clever little writer you are. Great the way you covered it all. Sad but true and I could hear Garrison Keeler reading this on The Writer's Almanac 12Noon M-F WVIA 89.9 FM. Blessings to you!!!
